down the rabbit hole.

I did an Alice and Wonderland themed photo shoot today, for Zoe's 'Useless Technology' collection.

Tea & Cake.

On Sunday I went down to Nexus Art Cafe, to see Teacake Design in action. There was an exhibition of some of their work, and also live screen printing. I love Teacake's design. It's so minimalistic and forward thinking. Here's a few images of their work that I really like.

I came across these interesting images by JeanYves Lemoigne. Lovely surreal, vintage feel.

These are my favourite shots from the drop dead gorgeous shoot. I'm in the photography studio tomorrow, making this work as a comic book story.

Alice in wonderland

The next shoot I am doing for Make do and mend features a huge knitted clock. I want the photo shoot to be inspired by Alice in Wonderland, set in the 1940s.

A shoot Annie Leibovitz did for Vogue is a huge inspiration.

Comic books

I had a tutorial with Lenore today. We talked about how to develop my 'Drop dead gorgeous' project. She thought that it would look really good as a comic book, which I like the idea of. I am going to do a photo shoot in the studio with my models to make more of a story.

drop dead gorgeous shoot.

Today I did the shoot for 'Drop dead gorgeous' in Castlefield, with two models. I used this location as I wanted it to look quite eerie and rundown.I set up the models to look dead, depressed or looking like they were going to kill each other. I really like how the images turned out. The daylight worked really well for this shoot.

I need to decide if I want to take this project any further than these images.

bookbinding

yesterday I went to a bookbinding workshop, to talk to Lucy about how I want to develop my books for 'Make do and mend'. There was a simple fold out book, with a small section that I can use to add my text/illustrations, then an A2 fold out sheet to show all my photographs.

Over the rest of the weekend I am going to finish my style sheets, for my 'drop dead gorgeous' shoot on monday. I am also going to try and finish my masters statement.

open days & photo shoots

Yesterday I went down to London, to the MA fashion photography open day at the London College of Fashion. I was considering applying for October, so thought it'd be useful to go down.

We had a talk with the lecturer of the course, which gave a great insight into the course. They like photographers who push the boundaries of fashion photography, and use their images to give a message. It is a hard course to get on to, and very competitive. However, I am definitely going to apply and see what happens. Over the weekend I am going to get my portfolio together.

The projects that I am working on for the rest of this year are:

1.Make do and Mend - Fashion photography books (explained more below)
2. Drop Dead Gorgeous - A conceptual photo shoot in reaction to the inhumane conditions at clothing factories
3. Festival Fashion - A photo shoot for a fashion design student, based on festival fashion.
4. Personal shoots/portfolio

Today I did a photo shoot for my Make do and Mend project. This is my main project, which is a series of fashion photography books, documenting the back catalogue of my friend on the textile design for fashion course's garments. She is producing adjustable fashion, which is a modern 'make do and mend'. My photo shoots have a 1940's feel, to link with the original make do and mend in the war. The photo shoot today was in a church, which had the vintage feel that I was looking for. I really like how these images turned out, I just need to select my favourites.
